I grabbed my pretty font version of HtD from here, and I converted it into a JPEG by way of MS Word, a PDF file extension, and a conversion via handy Preview on my Mac. Clearly I have no idea what I'm doing. I just click things and trial-and-error it up. But hopefully, this is just to hold me over until I can teach myself how to make something like these ladies have:

Granted, both of these gals are talented graphic designers....  But with a little patience and a lot of determination, I hope to get some basics under my belt as one of the many things I want to learn through the wedding planning process.

What are some other cool skills I hope to learn or perfect via wedding DIY? I present my list of Hope-to-DIY, broken down by various skill sets:


Patterning and sewing (a skill I actually have already thanks to theatre major mandatory crew hours):

• Bolero jacket for the ceremony to cover my shoulders, ideally crafted from my mothers eyelet wedding gown. (Don't worry, I have a back-up plan)
• Veil of course- cathedral length perhaps swiss-dotted silky tulle veils don't come cheap
• Table runners if the cost comes out to be less than renting them 

Carpentry (a skill I sorta vaguely have thanks to mandatory crew as above)

• Family Tree escort cart holder. I'll need a jigsaw... 

Pastry Cheffing maybe my brief time at my So-Cal bakery day job rubbed off on me...?

• Wedding Cake. You read that right. I'm not afraid.

Yarn Crafts / Crocheting could also be filed under sewing.

• Crocheted flower escort cards to put on the tree of course! With buttons sewn in the middle to hold on the guests names. Some might just be made out of felt...

Calligraphy... maybe. I'm left handed, so no promises here.

• Envelopes/Addresses
• Escort Cards

Letterpress as I mentioned here in no uncertain terms, I really want to learn letterpress. But it's a huge undertaking... I think.

• Invitations

Graphic Design

• To design the invitations
• And to pretty up the blog and website

Blogging and web stuff obvi.

• So I can take people along for the ride and network with other brides and designy people

Anyone else have ambitious plans for do-it-yourself projects, or taking this opportunity to hone a fun creative skill? Or... are you holding on to your sanity unlike me probably?
