A warm Sunday night in Queens, street traffic can be heard softly off stage. The sound of a ceiling fan clicks. ME lays in bed, tossing and shifting. CRAZY slowly moves from shadow into the light from the window...
Me: (whispering urgently and confusedly) Oh! ...wow! Hi Crazy, I uh.... I wasn't expecting you to stop by tonight....
Crazy: Yeah, y'know.... I was in the neighborhood. Heard you went dress shopping this weekend and you have to go to work in the morning, so I thought I'd stop by- see if you needed me.
Me: Huh. Well you know... that was thoughtful. I appreciate it, really. But now's not a good ti-
Crazy: OOH it's no trouble at all! I just thought you might want some more ideas for your bridesmaids. Didn't want you to narrow it down too soon without y'know- weighing all the options.
Me: uh, k.... Could you just maybe stay like, an arms' distance away tonight? I'll set up a meeting with you in the morning?
Crazy: Yeah sure! I'll-uh just-uh, position myself up here on your head board here, angle myself juuust right so you can feel me breathing down your neck. So you know where I am. A'ight?
Me: Oooo.. no. I guess... I'll just have to get up and get you outta here then, really... (more to herself) it's okay- it's only 1:30, we'll do a quick picture comparison... (to Crazy) Where did we save those pictures of my first favorite styles...? Should I look at J.Crew again?
ME and CRAZY exit up right, computer light pours in, keyboard clicking off stage. MARC slowly picks his head up.
Marc: (low & mumbly) What are you doing?
Me: (offstage- clicking stops) .........................
..I... don't know.
MARC climbs out of bed, exits up right, gentle mumbling can be heard off stage. MARC returns guiding ME back to bed.
End scene
This scene reads like a fairly typical night when I've nearly made a decision about something. It also reads a lot like Paranormal Activity. The design team should focus on blueish light, and we should maybe never really see Crazy- just a vague, formless silhouette....
Ugh!
Curious what it's all about?
Some clear winners emerged from our very successful and positive dress shopping experience this past Saturday! We are on a track to Jim Hjelm long gowns that come in chiffon, in any neckline each girl chooses, in the color Moss:
Some Jim Hjelms in chiffon- Bridge wore her pearls for the occasion. Moss.
This is a Bari Jay gown. We can get it in "Forest" green all one tone. We love the braid at the waist. If we pick this, it will be all uniform. We also love creative uses for binder clips.
{A Jackie-O-esque Alvina Valenta short dress, me scrutinizing Trines in an Alvena Valenta while wearing a no-go Bari Jay}
So then, why all the drama? We never really did try on my original love:
On that fateful night recapped above, my crazy bride-self flashed pictures in my mind's eye of this tissue taffeta shorty alongside my new wedding dress (I know I know I'll get there) and I loved them all over again! The problem is, the green isn't anything like moss or forrest:
chartreuse... otherwise known as booger.
I could do a neutral color, but that might make me lose green entirely!
So, there it is. On the bright side, I can harass my mom and sis this weekend on a visit home and drag them out to look too! And then there's alway my NY MOH's brain to pick, and email votes to be cast.... and LA MOH to Skype in...
Does anyone else keeps themselves up at night with their own brand of bridal crazy?
